About U.P. State Ophthalmological Society (UPSOS)

A Legacy of Vision, Excellence, and Fraternal Unity

The U.P. State Ophthalmological Society (UPSOS) is the definitive professional organization representing eye care specialists across the expansive landscape of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. With a history rooted in the pursuit of scientific perfection and social service, UPSOS stands as one of the most vibrant and academically driven state chapters in India.

Our History: From NOS to UPSOS

Our journey began under the banner of the Northern Ophthalmological Society (NOS). Registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, the organization was founded to unify ophthalmologists in North India. As the medical landscape evolved, the society transitioned into the U.P. State Ophthalmological Society. Today, we proudly represent practitioners from Uttar Pradesh and our sister state, Uttarakhand, which shared a common administrative bond at the time of our inception. This shared history continues to foster a unique spirit of brotherhood among our members.

Our Core Objectives

UPSOS functions as a catalyst for growth in the field of vision science. Our mission is built on three foundational pillars:

1. Academic & Research Advancement.
We aim to cultivate and promote a deep understanding of the contemporary and evolving fields of ophthalmology. By supporting original research and human resource development, we ensure our members are equipped with the latest surgical techniques and diagnostic protocols.

2. Professional Fellowship.
The society provides a prestigious platform for fellow ophthalmologists to interact, share clinical experiences, and discuss complex case studies. We believe that professional growth is best achieved through the exchange of ideas and a strong sense of community.

3. Eradicating Visual Impairment.
Our ultimate commitment is to the people. By educating the society at large and facilitating high-quality eye care, we strive to fight the misery of people suffering from eye diseases and eliminate avoidable blindness in our region.

The UPSOS Impact

"We don't just treat eyes; we restore lives. By empowering the ophthalmologist, we empower the patient." With thousands of active members, UPSOS is instrumental in:

• Skill Enhancement: Hands-on workshops and wet labs for young surgeons.
• Ethical Advocacy: Maintaining the highest ethical standards in ophthalmic practice.
• Public Awareness: Conducting state-wide campaigns on Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Cataract awareness.
